Photographing a dragon for Shots magazine

A few weeks ago I was commissioned by Wanda Productions in Paris to produce portraits of Alexandre Ada and Cédric Jeanne, the directors of animation studio Akama, for Shots magazine. You might not have heard of Akama but you’ll probably have seen their films, including spots for Kit Kat and Wilkinson Sword, and others with the Raving Rabbids.

We shot in a huge empty building which used to be the offices of a film production company, an amazing place. The initial brief was to set up the two directors with the characters from two of their advertising films, getting them to pose as puppeteers. OK, so the post title is maybe a bit misleading – their films are all 3D animations, so we had no real puppets, but they did a good job of pretending to be controlling a dragon and a knight fighting! Their studio then rendered the CGI characters, which were comped into the background by retoucher Antoine Mairot:

Wandering through the building we came across the remains of a render farm which made a great location for another picture of Alexandre and Cédric, seen below in the magazine layout:
